ARRIVAL AT AIRPORT, PUBLIC TRANSPORT TO UTRECHT AND HOTELS

Arrival

Many of you will arrive by plane at Amsterdam – Schiphol airport.  There is a train connection to Utrecht Central Station where trains leave every 10-15 minutes.  It is easiest to take the intercity that directly connects the two railway stations.  Utrecht central station is the biggest railway station in The Netherlands and, therefore, also the busiest.  It is directly connected to some lines from Germany and connections to other major Dutch cities are excellent.

Public transport

You probably prefer to use public transportation to travel to and from Utrecht and to travel from your hotel to the venue and back.  There are two direct connections between Utrecht city centre and the Science Park (a map will be sent only to registered participants).  One is bus line 28, which crosses Utrecht Central Station, the city centre and the residential area in eastern Utrecht before reaching the Science Park.  Leave at the Botanical Garden stop.  The other is tram line 22 and also 20 and 21.  The tram stops at Utrecht Central Station, Vaartsche Rijn railway station and has regular stops after passing the Utrecht football stadium.  Leave at the Padualaan stop (or Heidelberglaan stop).

The easiest way to pay for public transport is to install the OVpay app at your smart phone (OV is the Dutch abbreviation for public transport).  You can then pay directly with your credit card (Note that debit cards do not work for foreign visitors).  Do not forget to check out when you leave the train/tram/bus!  See for more information and other options:

Buying individual tickets is more expensive and can be a hassle.

Hotels

Utrecht has a series of hotels and the total capacity matches the needs from tourists and professionals visiting Utrecht and not much more.  Early reservation is, therefore, recommended.  There are hotels around the city centre near the bus line (e.g., Leonardo, Eye, City Centre Lodge, Beijers), there is a number of business style hotels at Utrecht railway station (e.g., NH Utrecht), there are a few hotels near Vaartsche Rijn railway station where the tram stops and which is situated at the southern edge of the city centre (Moxy Utrecht, Oudegracht, Museumkwartier, UKI, Muze), and there are a few near the bus line in the eastern, residential neighbourhood (Malie, Oorsprongpark, Mitland).  Please make your reservation directly with the hotel because it is cheaper.
